I grew up listening to Jimmie Buffett. I can sing all the words to “Margaritaville” and “Cheeseburger in Paradise” and love his music and the beach bum vibe it carries. So when I found out that his sister had a restaurant in Gulf Shores, Alabama and in Destin, Florida I knew I had to check it out. I had been hearing about the place for years from friends due to their amazing allergy menu. So the Friday before Memorial Day we decided to take the drive to Gulf Shores and have lunch at Lulu’s. Here are four things you need to know about Lulu’s Gulf Shores
The place was exactly like you would expect from a place own by a Buffett. There was a laid back, beach and permanent vacation vibe from the place that only someone with the last name Buffet could create.
It was surprisingly not crowded being the Friday of a holiday weekend and we walked right in. I have heard at times it can get very crowded so be aware of that.
Kid Friendly Activities
However, there is a lot to keep the kids busy while you wait. Lulu’s has a sandy beach playground with sand toys, rope courses, arcade, live music and more. So bring your wallet. This is more than just a meal, it’s an experience. My kids had a blast climbing the ropes course. There is even a sandbox for kids to play in while you’re waiting on your meal.
Food Allergy Friendly
One of my favorite things about Lulu’s was the detail to food allergies. I’ve been very few places that handle food allergies like they did. In fact the only other two places I’ve ever eaten that have been this great with food allergies are Carnival Cruise Line and Walt Disney World. There is a complete allergy menu that covers the top 8 allergens.
When you order the manager comes out and takes your order on a red slip. Your order is then made in a separate part of the kitchen and brought to you by the manager. With myself and my eight year old having a gluten intolerance and with both kids having food allergies in the past (recently outgrown) this is extremely important to us. We ordered chips with salsa and queso, shrimp tacos and grilled shrimp for us all gluten-free.
Since the boys don’t have to worry about this they got onion rings, a “Cheeseburger In Paradise” and the seafood platter.
The food was delicious. Thanks Lulu’s for a great dining experience. We’ll definitely be back.
