We had a question in our Facebook group about Instagram hashtags, and while I was thinking about that, it took me down a bit of a rabbit hole. While a lot of people tout the benefits of using a particular hashtag to “get discovered,” real Instagram growth takes a little more work than that.
But First Lets Discuss Hashtags
Finding great hashtags isn’t that hard because a lot of legwork has already been done for. A quick google search of good hashtags for your industry should give you some ideas. From there you can try a few and see which ones give you the most interaction. Some experts caution against using hashtags that are too big (over a million tags) or too small (less than 10,000). Personally, I think it all depends on your audience. If you’re looking for locals, a smaller hashtag might work perfectly. If a hashtag is really active, it might be just the thing to jumpstart a new account.
What Else Can You Do?
The most effective method I’ve found for growing my followers is to go like other people’s pictures. This simple and effective method can get you new followers almost instantly. You can search and like pictures in a particular hashtag. If you’re looking for local followers you can find a local tv news station and start liking the pictures of their followers. This is a quick and easy technique you can use to rapidly add new followers.
Find More Local Followers
Here’s one more great trick for finding local followers if your business lends itself to that kind of thing. The next time you’re in a public place like a park or public building, upload an Instagram pictures and tag the location. Later, when you click on that location it will pull up all the photographs that have been taken there. These are your local instagrammers! Like their pictures or follow them to get a relationship going! Some local areas have their own instagram tags as well. For examples, user in the New Orleans area are fond of the hashtag #igersnola.
So there you are–those are just a few quick tips to help you find more followers and get more engagement on Instagram!
